Account & Data Deletion

This page explains how to delete your OweYou account and the personal data associated with it. It applies whether you signed in with Google or with an email address and password.

What gets deleted

When your account is deleted, we permanently remove:

Your account and sign-in credentials (Google link or email/password).
Your profile information — name, email address, and profile photo.
The groups you created, along with their expenses, amounts, descriptions, payments, and settlements.
Your membership and entries in groups created by others.
Any device push token stored for notifications.

Some data you entered into a shared group (for example, an expense others were part of) may be retained by the remaining members so their balances stay accurate. Your account and personal profile are always removed. We may also keep limited records where required by law.

How to request deletion

Send a deletion request from your account email address to oweyou-support@googlegroups.com with the subject Delete my account. Sending from your account email lets us verify the request is really you. Once verified, we delete your account and the associated data described above.

Timeframe

We process deletion requests and remove your account and associated personal data within 30 days. In most cases it happens much sooner. Backups are purged on our regular rotation, so any residual copies are fully removed shortly after.
